Testimonials

‘The 8 week program was an immense help to my breathing awareness and control.
All of my breathing metrics improved, as did its influence in other areas of life.
I highly recommend working with Martin, whose knowledge and friendly nature makes such a program a success’

I approached Martin after seeing some of his material on social media and I was intrigued and somewhat sceptical about how much effect breathing could have on a better lifestyle.
Through my own poor health and stress, I knew that poor breathing while sleeping really affected my energy the next day.
I signed up for Martin’s course and stuck to a regiment and felt much better from the 3rd week in. Stress levels were much lower, I could sleep better and think with clarity during the day.
The most crucial thing for me was that I wasn’t spending money on one-off programs, but rather to learn skills that last a lifetime.
Really glad I found Martin and will be back for his next level program.

“In the middle of 2019, I became instantly short of breath. Upon lengthy investigation, the doctors found a large saddle pulmonary embolism affecting my lungs and circulation. As a result, my gas exchange rate reduces to 62%. Previously, I lived a very active and physical lifestyle practising martial arts, powerlifting and bodybuilding to racing motor cross. Overnight I became debilitated, unable to even do basic functions with fear of passing out and constant shortness of breath. As the embolism dissipated, it left some heavy scar tissue and shallow, stress breathing patterns that impacted my day-to-day life. I was out of luck, but fortunately, I discovered Martin and his breathing course. I opted to give it a go because my quality of life was still very poor. On my initial consult, I could hardly hold my breath for 40 seconds and score poor on the scores related to my breathing patterns. Now, I can hold my breath for 3 minutes, and I can go hiking and do moderate to intense exercise regularly. This program has genuinely improved my quality of life. All that know me have commented on how much I have improved this year, and I owe it entirely to Martin and his breathing training program. I still have some healing to do, but this training has given me the light at the end of the tunnel, and everything seems so much clearer now.”

Martin is some kind of wizard. I thought this breathing stuff was all hocus pocus. He convinced me with his knowledge and a promise to help me get on my bike again. I have no idea how he has managed to do it but eight weeks ago I could not walk up a flight of stairs. Now I can run up the bastards and I’m back on the farm working, and enjoying my cycling. For an old bugger I’m feeling pretty darn good. Thank you.

Working with Martin has been a game-changer! His ability to ask the right questions has opened my eyes to what limiting beliefs I may have created for myself. His knowledge of stress management and strategies and tools has been beneficial, and I’ve seen a change in managing myself. What I genuinely appreciate about Martin is how open, vulnerable and authentic he is. He is happy to share his personal experiences and makes a genuine connection with you. I’m very grateful to be working with someone like Martin and can’t recommend him enough

I booked Martin for a breathwork session at Lingfield College for our PSHE period, following attending one myself and immediately seeing the positive impact it had on me. The varied breathwork techniques helped instil a sense of calmness I haven’t felt for a long time, and another released dopamine, boosting positive feelings for the day. I instantly wanted to share it with the Sixth Form students, as these methods are exactly what everyone needs in general life, but especially during the lockdown. We had over 160 attendees, and students have shared how beneficial they found it. Some were surprised at how low their CO2 tolerance was and will continue to use the techniques to improve themselves. Others students have made challenges to practise each day. Martin is a professional and has a powerful, calming voice. He educates on the science behind why breath-work helps and gave excellent advice on improving performance in school and sport using these techniques. I would highly recommend him to any school, large or small company as his methods, and how he shares them can only benefit everyone.”

Martin recently presented breathwork and cold water immersion workshop for our Tribe at Movement Co. From organising to delivering the workshop to post-workshop engagement, the whole process was highly professional and it was immensely valuable for our members. Martin is a highly accredited health professional. He delivers an evidence-based, science-driven workshop but is also in tune with his spiritual side and brings elements from more traditional eastern practices that complement and enrich the content, helping him connect with a broader audience. The breathwork workshop explained clearly each exercise’s benefits and detailed breakdowns of the techniques and when people should use each method for maximum benefit. During the ice bath workshop, Martin was highly supportive of our members at different stages of their cold exposure journey. He knew when to push those looking for a deeper experience and support those who were beginners and needed additional guidance and encouragement. Overall, it was an impressively run and enriching experience for our members. We are excited to work further with Martin on more advanced content to continue the education for those who attended and additional fundamentals workshops to get even more of our community involved.

“Martin, that was great, definitely skills I’ll be adding to my toolbox to help with current life. I’d pay a set amount per session for this teaching any day of the week. I really liked how you backed up why we were doing what we were with science. Love a good bit of evidence-based practice”

Having been working night shift for many years my sleeping habits were all over the place. I had recently changed jobs, back to day shift and was struggling to get good sleep quality at night. I approached Martin, who looked at my sleeping habits. We went through a week diary, and he made recommendations based on what my typical week looked like to me. Through these small changes, over time, I noticed improvements in my sleep quality. It was a process where Martin had to keep reassuring me to be patient, but I am glad I listened to his advice. His holistic approach and knowledge of scientific principles in health are what separates him from other coaches I previously used. He helped me put together a plan to not only improve my sleep but also improved the quality of my diet. I worked with Martin for a few months, and in that time, I feel ten years younger. I can perform and work much better at work, without having to struggle with that 3pm lack of energy. I’d highly recommend Martin to anyone out there who is not only looking to improve their overall health, but also feel motivated to take action towards achievable goals that drive you towards an inspiring life direction.

I was introduced to Inspiratory muscle training by Martin Mcphilimey as I was beginning a short and accelerated preparation for Western Australia’s Strongman series after seven months of traveling. Due to having only two months to prepare, Martin suggested IMT would enhance recovery from exercise so that I was able to put as many sessions as possible.
After a 10 year career in the Military including 5 within the Australian Special Forces I previously assumed I was in physically good shape year-round. Post-discharge from the Army I spent 7 months abroad, generally staying well away from most forms of fitness aside from the occasional hike. Needless to say upon my return from traveling, I was probably in the worst shape I’d been in for the past 15 years in both strength and cardiovascular fitness. Shortly after I had my arm twisted to test myself against some of WA’s strongest including recently crowned Worlds strongest U90kg man Ngarimu Ahipene.
After competing in the Qualifying round and earning a place at the state finals, Martin introduced me to the advantage of Inspiratory muscle training. I quickly jumped on board to leverage any possible physical benefits I could get with a shortened prep in comparison to most other competitors, I was looking for support from a performance coach. We completed an initial baseline of testing, and one day, Martin issued me a daily program that was easy to follow. We then had fortnightly retests to measure results to ensure the appropriate training load throughout the training protocol. After a week of using the device, I could noticeably feel the strength of my breathing muscles increase. It became easier to draw air through the IMT device, making each training session easier. After four weeks of training, I was becoming less frequently out of breath during my workouts.
Each fortnightly retest reaffirmed my opinion that the five minutes of complete training a day was making my lungs significantly stronger. Increasing my cardiac output and allowing the rest of my muscles to receive far more oxygenated blood than usual to the last longer and recover faster throughout my lead up training and during competition. At the WA strongman state finals, I managed to cap it off with a second-place finish to the Worlds Strongest 90kg man and an invite to Arnold’s national competition in Melbourne with 8 weeks of weight training and 6 weeks Inspiratory Muscle Training.
I will be continuing to work with Martin, and I’d undoubtedly recommend IMT to any individual finding it difficult to breathe during exercise. From those with breathing-related issues, all the way up to elite Athletes wanting to find that extra 2-3% when only milliseconds or a fractional weight plate might mean the difference between first and last place.
