The Biggest Predictors of Workplace Success

Performance Through Health serves to support individuals like yourself to succeed in your life mission and ambitions. We work together to make you the best version of yourself.

According to the psychological literature, there are desirable personality traits that predict success in the workplace. While personality develops from a young age, it is dynamic and can change, therefore giving yourself a higher chance of success in life and business it developed appropriately.

The most significant predictor of success is CONSCIENTIOUSNESS.

Conscientious people can delay gratification and sacrifice the now for a better future. They are often organised and disciplined and have an innate ability to get things done. Intelligence often falls under this trait due to hard work and determination to reach one’s goal meaning they tend to get higher grades in school and university — a highly desirable trait for high performance.

AGREEABLENESS negatively correlates with success in the workplace.

While being agreeable shall make you easy-going and therefore excellent at building relationships, it won’t help in business because those who are not agreeable put themselves first and you shall not get your needs met. The world of business is ruthless. Having the ability to stand your ground and be assertive shall help you get what you want. Agreeable individuals are often paid less for the above reasons.

NEUROTICISM is also negatively correlated with success because being prone to negative emotion diminishes rationality and efficient decision making. Practising the art of stoicism and learning about emotional intelligence can aid in improving your performance by developing neurotic individuals to act calmer, be optimistic and have more self-confidence.

Those who score high in trait OPENNESS are more likely to succeed due to their creative, ability to solve problems and their eagerness to learn. At the same time, EXTRAVERSION often results in dominance and sociability both advantageous for success in life.
