Measuring Your BOLT Score | Oxygen Advantage
In this video, you will discover how to measure your Body Oxygen Level Test score and what it means and how to predict whether you have a functional breathing pattern.
The BOLT score is a measure of functional breathing from a biochemical standpoint. It looks at your ability to tolerate rising carbon dioxide levels and is often used by Oxygen Advantage instructors.
1️⃣ This test is best done at the same time of day upon waking.
2️⃣ In a relaxed position breathing normally through the nose
3️⃣ Pinch your nose at the end of a normal breath
4️⃣ Using a stopwatch, time how long it takes for you to get the first noticeable urge to breathe. That could be movement in your throat, chest, abdomen, a swallow or psychological want to take a breath.
⁉️ This is not a maximal breath-hold test; it’s simply when you get that first desire to want to take a breath.
*Mine currently hovers around 28 seconds first thing in the morning and varies depending on the sleep I’ve had

The idea with breath control training is to improve your BOLT score amongst other measures. This helps improve focus, energy and productivity for higher performance levels. Additional benefits include reduced breathlessness, improved sporting performance, and higher quality sleep.
